FULL DOSSIER
Sumer (southern Iraq, c. 4500-1900 BCE) produced the earliest known writing, cities, law codes, schools, and astronomy. The 'appeared overnight' framing is an exaggeration — archaeology shows the Ubaid precursor culture — but the speed of the leap from villages to literate city-states remains genuinely compressed. It connects to the Anunnaki node because Sumer's own myths credit civilization to gods who 'came down' (the Sitchin reading), and to Babylon, which inherited its temple institutions and star records.
