David McGowan's 'Weird Scenes Inside the Canyon' (2014) noted the military-intelligence parentage of 1960s Laurel Canyon musicians (Morrison's father commanded at Tonkin; Zappa's father worked at Edgewood; Stills, Crosby similar) beside Lookout Mountain Air Force Station — a real, secret film facility operating in the canyon (documented, declassified). The thesis (counterculture as counterintelligence product) is inference from proximity; the proximity itself is genuine and strange.
