A thinking layer wrapping the planet, predicted before the internet — which believers say is its nervous system.

The noosphere has documented intellectual pedigree: Vernadsky (geochemist, 1920s lectures) and Teilhard de Chardin (whose Omega Point writings were suppressed by his order during his lifetime — a documented censorship case, published posthumously 1955). The internet-as-noosphere reading is standard in media theory. The measurable version is the Global Consciousness Project, filed separately. The node holds the lineage: a banned Jesuit's planetary-mind eschatology becoming, by turns, media studies and the awakening thread's respectable ancestor.
