SUMMARY
MKULTRA's biological sibling: toxins, delivery systems, and a retirement plan of deniability.
FULL DOSSIER
Picture a small locked refrigerator inside CIA headquarters. Behind the door, in a labeled vial, sits about eleven grams of shellfish toxin, enough, a CIA scientist told a Senate committee under oath, to kill at least fourteen thousand people. Years earlier the President of the United States had ordered every gram of it destroyed. It wasn't. That vial is where this file begins. The program behind it was Project MKNAOMI, and here's what is DOCUMENTED, straight from the government's own record. Beginning in 1952, the CIA partnered with the U.S. Army's Special Operations Division at Fort Detrick, Maryland. In sworn 1977 testimony, CIA Director Stansfield Turner described it plainly: under MKNAOMI, the Army helped the Agency develop, test, and maintain biological agents and delivery systems 'for use against humans as well as against animals and crops.' The goal was a shelf of incapacitating and lethal materials, plus the hardware to deliver them quietly. This is not legend. It is in the transcript. So here's where it gets strange. In September 1975, in a packed hearing room, CIA Director William Colby set a pistol on the table in front of the Church Committee. It fired a tiny dart, nearly silent, accurate at a hundred feet, a dart designed to leave almost no trace. Chairman Frank Church lifted it for the cameras, and that photograph became one of the most famous images in American intelligence history. In the folklore it's the 'heart attack gun': a weapon that could stop a heart and vanish. What the record actually shows is a demonstrated delivery device and a described capability, that much is DOCUMENTED. Claims that it was used to kill this or that specific public figure remain SPECULATION; no such death has been proven to it. But here's the part most people don't know. MKNAOMI was the quieter sibling of a name you already know, mkultra, the CIA's sprawling mind-control and behavioral-modification effort. Where MKULTRA chased the mind, MKNAOMI built the toolkit: the toxins, the darts, the dissemination gear. The two programs shared the same shadowy corridor and, at Fort Detrick, the same scientists. That's why this node ties directly to fort-detrick-lore, the Army biowarfare campus where the Special Operations Division did the wet work. Believers read MKNAOMI as the smoking gun for a whole hidden arsenal of untraceable assassination tools, woven into the Cold War plots against foreign leaders. Some of that is real and admitted; much of the maximal version outruns the evidence and should be held as LEGEND until documents say otherwise. What is beyond dispute is that the Agency built the means, kept a toxin it was told to destroy, and got caught. On the map, MKNAOMI sits at the hinge between mkultra and fort-detrick-lore, the place where mind-control research meets biological hardware, and where the documented record itself reads like a thriller.
