FULL DOSSIER
Gunung Padang, West Java: a hilltop megalithic terrace complex over what geologist Danny Hilman Natawidjaja claims are engineered chambers descending into a pyramid up to 27,000 years old — which would predate every known civilization by an epoch. Documented: the surface site (c. 1st millennium BC), the drill cores, and a 2023 paper in Archaeological Prospection making the ancient-pyramid case — retracted by the journal in 2024 after methodological objections. Excavation was halted amid controversy. The site is the live test case: either the retraction ends it, or the retraction is the cover-up.
