Dark Forest Theory
SUMMARY
Perhaps everyone is hiding. Perhaps shouting our location was a mistake.
FULL DOSSIER
Liu Cixin's 2008 novel gave the Fermi paradox its darkest solution: the universe is silent because every civilization that broadcasts is destroyed — cosmic sociology as survival horror. Documented: it is fiction, but it now functions as live policy argument in METI debates, cited by researchers opposing active transmission (and echoing earlier warnings from Ryle and Hawking). On this map it is the newest layer of quarantine lore: the sky is empty because the sky is dangerous, and someone may already have decided silence on our behalf.
