Candy Jones
SUMMARY
The model who, under hypnosis, remembered a second self with a passport of her own.
FULL DOSSIER
Here's a woman who was, by any measure, a real public figure. Candy Jones — born Jessica Wilcox — was one of America's most famous pinup models and cover girls of the 1940s, later a modeling-agency executive and a name people knew. That's what makes what came next so hard to look away from.
By the early 1970s, Candy Jones had married the radio personality Long John Nebel. And her husband noticed something wrong. Her moods would swing violently, almost like a different person surfacing. So — and this is DOCUMENTED as the origin of the whole story — Nebel began using hypnosis on her, recording the sessions. Starting around 1972 and 1973, under hypnosis, Candy Jones told an astonishing tale.
The story that emerged went like this: that years earlier she'd been recruited by the CIA; that she'd been used as a secret courier, carrying messages across the world; that through hypnosis and conditioning a second personality had been built inside her — a hidden operative named "Arlene" — who could be activated to do the agency's work while Candy herself remembered nothing. She described drugs, control, even torture. It is, essentially, the Manchurian Candidate made flesh, told in the first person.
In 1976, the writer Donald Bain published these sessions and claims as a book, "The Control of Candy Jones." And that's the crucial thing for you to hold onto. Almost everything in this story traces back to those hypnosis tapes and that book — to Candy Jones's own account, recovered under hypnosis by her own husband, who was not a neutral investigator.
So here's where honesty matters most. This is a documented CLAIM — a real, recorded, published account by a real person — but it is NOT established fact. No declassified government record confirms that Candy Jones was a CIA agent or a hypno-programmed courier. And remember the hypno-programming node right next door: the reliability of memories "recovered" under hypnosis is exactly what mainstream science is most skeptical of. Hypnosis can produce vivid, sincerely believed narratives that are partly or wholly confabulated. Even the psychiatrist Herbert Spiegel, associated with later editions, is known for work on how suggestible, highly hypnotizable people can absorb and elaborate a story. None of that proves she made it up — and none of it proves she didn't. It means the evidence is the account itself, and little else.
So present her the way the record allows: a genuine celebrity who genuinely believed, or came to describe under hypnosis, a genuinely disturbing story — offered here as her account, not as confirmed history.
On the map, Candy Jones sits right beside hypnotic programming, the very method that produced her testimony and the reason to weigh it carefully. And she connects to Project Monarch — because her case, real woman and recorded sessions and all, became one of the cornerstone stories later folded into that larger, unproven legend of manufactured, mind-controlled operatives.
SOURCES ON RECORD
01Donald Bain, "The Control of Candy Jones" (Playboy Press, 1976), based on 1972-1973 hypnosis sessions conducted by Long John Nebel; later editions associated with psychiatrist Herbert Spiegel. Candy Jones (Jessica Wilcox) was a documented 1940s pinup model and agency figure. Her CIA-courier / built-alter ("Arlene") account is a claim derived from hypnosis sessions and the book; it is not corroborated by any declassified U.S. government record and should be presented as an account, not established fact. Context: reliability of hypnotically recovered memory is scientifically disputed.
