You already know the name. You've known it since you were a kid. A stretch of ocean between Miami, Bermuda, and Puerto Rico where ships vanish, planes drop off radar, and compasses spin like tops. The Bermuda Triangle. Say it out loud and something tightens in your chest. So here's where it gets strange — not the disappearances, but where the LEGEND actually comes from. The Triangle wasn't handed down by ancient mariners. It was born in a magazine. In 1964, a writer named Vincent Gaddis published an article in Argosy, a pulp adventure magazine, titled 'The Deadly Bermuda Triangle.' He drew three lines on a map, gathered a cluster of losses at sea and in the air, and gave the region its now-famous shape and name. The idea caught fire. Then, in 1974, Charles Berlitz published his blockbuster book 'The Bermuda Triangle,' which sold millions and cemented the myth in popular culture — complete with hints of Atlantis, strange energies, and forces beyond understanding. And that's the thread that pulls the whole story together on our map. The Triangle links straight to Flight 19, the vanished squadron of Navy bombers that became its founding case. It links to Atlantis, the drowned civilization some believe still hums beneath those waters. And it links to the Earth grid, the notion of invisible energetic lines crossing the planet. But here's the part most people don't know. The people whose entire job is tracking ships and planes over that ocean say there is nothing there. The U.S. Navy and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration — NOAA — have both stated plainly that the 'Bermuda Triangle' is not an officially recognized area, and that the number of disappearances there is no greater than in any other heavily traveled stretch of ocean. Insurance giant Lloyd's of London found no elevated loss rate. The Coast Guard, which investigates the actual incidents, attributes them to the ordinary, brutal realities of the sea. And those realities are plenty. This is one of the busiest maritime and aviation corridors on Earth — more traffic means more accidents, statistically. It's swept by the Gulf Stream, a fast, violent current that can erase wreckage in hours. It spawns sudden, ferocious storms and rare rogue waves. Its shallow shoals and deep trenches swallow evidence. Add human error and the simple fact that the ocean is enormous and unforgiving, and the 'mystery' dissolves into arithmetic. Investigator Larry Kusche spent years re-checking Berlitz's famous cases and found many were exaggerated, misreported, occurred nowhere near the Triangle, or had perfectly documented causes that Berlitz simply left out. Now — I'm not telling you what to believe. Real people really died out there, and their stories deserve respect. But the documented record and the legend point in very different directions.
