The CIA acknowledged the base's existence in 2013, in a declassified U-2 history with the name finally unredacted — fifty-eight years after the runway went down. The admitted story (U-2, OXCART, captured MiGs) explains the secrecy without explaining the mythology: the workers flown in on unmarked 737s, the camo dudes on the ridgelines, the lawsuit by workers poisoned by burning classified materials the government would not name in court.
