One bullet, seven wounds, two men. Case closed, the commission said. Few believed it.

Seven men, ten months, 888 pages, and one conclusion that half the country still refuses to accept. Here's a question that should nag at you more than it does: if the official investigation into a president's murder got everything right, why did Congress have to reopen the entire record thirty years later? Start with what's DOCUMENTED. On November 29, 1963, one week after Dallas, President Johnson signed Executive Order 11130, creating the President's Commission on the Assassination of President Kennedy, chaired by Chief Justice Earl Warren. By September 24, 1964, the Commission handed Johnson its report; that November it released 26 volumes of hearings and exhibits. Its headline finding: Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. So here's where it gets strange. The load-bearing beam of 'alone' is the single-bullet theory, the idea that one bullet passed through Kennedy and Governor Connally, causing seven wounds. That's the magic-bullet node in our web, and it wasn't just internet skeptics who choked on it. Senator Richard Russell, a commissioner, refused to sign onto the single-bullet conclusion and wanted his dissent recorded. A member of the panel didn't buy the panel's own central premise. Sit with that. But here's the part most people don't know, and this part is documented, not legend: the Commission was not given everything. It later emerged that FBI agent James Hosty had received a note from Oswald and, on orders, destroyed it after the assassination; the FBI admitted this in 1975. The CIA never told the Commission about its own plots to assassinate Fidel Castro — a fact that, had the Commission known, might have reframed every question about motive and retaliation. The people investigating didn't know what their own government was hiding. This is the connective tissue, so follow it. The believers' case isn't only 'the physics feel wrong.' It's that the record itself was incomplete, and eventually the government more or less conceded the point. In 1992, riding a wave of public doubt (much of it fueled by the Zapruder film finally being seen), Congress passed the JFK Records Act and created the Assassination Records Review Board precisely because so much stayed secret. Mark the line, because the house rule matters here. It is DOCUMENTED that records were withheld and destroyed. It is SPECULATION, contested and unproven, that those gaps hide a conspiracy rather than bureaucratic cover-your-tail instinct. Both can be true; only one is proven. Where does this sit on the map? The Warren Commission is the spine of the whole JFK cluster: it's what the zapruder film challenges, it's what the magic-bullet theory lives or dies on, and it's the template — official inquiry, then public doubt — that repeats with rfk and Memphis.
