The legend: the ship was her damaged twin, and the sinking removed three financiers opposed to a central bank. Astor, Guggenheim and Straus did die; their supposed Fed opposition has no source. The rivets, divers note, say Titanic.

The Titanic switch: the claim that the damaged Olympic was swapped for Titanic in an insurance fraud, so 'Titanic' never sank. Documented: hull number 401 (Titanic's) on recovered wreck artifacts, thousands of detail differences catalogued by researchers, and the insurance record — White Star was underinsured and lost money. The related 'Federal Reserve assassination' variant (Astor, Guggenheim, Straus killed for opposing the Fed) fails on record: their positions on the Fed are undocumented. A fully falsified classic that persists as the genre's teaching example.
