Shambhala
SUMMARY
The hidden Tibetan kingdom. The Ahnenerbe went looking. The Roerichs went looking. Everyone goes looking.
FULL DOSSIER
Shambhala appears in the Kalachakra tantra (11th century) as a hidden kingdom preserving the teaching until a future age — geographic to some traditions, purely visionary to others. Documented expeditions sought it: the Roerichs' Central Asian journeys (1925-28, with a documented and strange State Department/Agriculture Department connection through Henry Wallace, whose 'Dear Guru' letters to Nicholas Roerich became a 1940s political scandal), and the Ahnenerbe's 1938-39 Tibet mission. The node connects Agartha (the subterranean recension), Theosophy's masters, and the confirmed fact that both a US cabinet secretary and the SS spent resources looking for it.
