Ordo Templi Orientis

A magical order whose California lodge, improbably, helped birth the space age.

Ordo Templi Orientis, founded around 1906 in Germany by Carl Kellner and Theodor Reuss, reorganized by Aleister Crowley after 1912 around his religion Thelema. Documented: its charters, its degree structure, Crowley's papers, the California Agape Lodge whose members included JPL co-founder Jack Parsons — the actual documented bridge between ceremonial magic and the American rocket program. The lore inflates it into a world-steering cabal; the record shows a small, litigious esoteric order that nonetheless touched aerospace history.
