Operation Mongoose (1961-62): the documented Kennedy-era covert program against Cuba — Lansdale's timetable aiming at revolt, sabotage operations, and the CIA-Mafia assassination contracts (Giancana, Roselli, Trafficante — confirmed by the Church Committee and the 2007 Family Jewels release). Its existence made Northwoods thinkable and gave the JFK file its darkest irony, noted by investigators: the machinery built to kill Castro pointed back at Dallas in half the theories. All of the program is declassified history.
