The 1938-39 German Antarctic Expedition (ship Schwabenland) photographed ~350,000 km² and dropped swastika-inscribed darts to claim 'Neuschwabenland' — documented expedition history, with whaling-industry and prestige motives in the record. No base construction is documented; U-boat capacities and postwar Allied inspections make Base 211 logistics implausible per polar historians (Summerhayes & Beeching's peer-reviewed demolition of the myth is the standard citation).
