FULL DOSSIER

You can watch the moment the era changed. September 10, 2025, Utah Valley University in Orem: Charlie Kirk, the 31-year-old conservative activist and founder of Turning Point USA, is speaking under a white canopy when a single shot is fired from a rooftop. He is killed. And before investigators have even secured the scene, the theories are already live, second shooters, staged-event readings, false-flag claims, flooding an information landscape that no longer waits for evidence. Let's stay with the documented record, because that record is still being written in a Utah courtroom. The day after the shooting, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson surrendered. On September 16, 2025, the Utah County Attorney's Office filed formal charges: aggravated murder, a capital offense, along with related counts, and prosecutors announced they intend to seek the death penalty. Read that carefully. Robinson is charged. He is a defendant, not a convicted man. Prosecutors have laid out what they allege; the defense disputes it; nothing has been proven to a jury. In fact, as of mid-July 2026, no jury exists yet, because the case hasn't even been bound over for trial. A preliminary hearing ran through the week and ended on July 10, 2026, with Robinson having entered no plea. Prosecutors presented surveillance video they say shows the shooter reaching a rooftop position, and a recorded statement from Robinson's former roommate; the defense contested the evidence hard, including the DNA. Fourth District Judge Tony Graf did not rule on whether the case proceeds. He set arguments on probable cause for September 1, 2026, with a decision expected weeks after that. In other words, the central legal question, does this even go to trial, was at the time of writing still open. Now hold that against the folklore, because the gap between them is the whole point. This killing sits in a lineage older than the internet: the lincoln-plot, the theater box in 1865; the rifle and grassy-knoll arguments of Dealey Plaza and jfk; the long American reflex to believe a single shot must hide a larger design. And like those, it enters the body-count-genre almost immediately. But this file is distinguished by one thing: timing. This is the first major American assassination of the algorithmic-feed era. Its lore was generated live, in real time, before a single piece of evidence had been catalogued, by millions of people posting into a fragmented feed. The legend didn't follow the event by years, as it did with Lincoln or Kennedy. It arrived within the hour, fully formed, competing with the facts before the facts existed. So the discipline here is almost brutal in its simplicity: separate what a court has established from what a feed has asserted. On the map, the Kirk file is the newest node and the most volatile, the place where the oldest conspiracy instinct in the country met the fastest information machine ever built, and did so while the courtroom was still in session.
