Elizabeth's court astrologer owned England's greatest library, coined 'British Empire,' and signed his intelligence reports 007. With Edward Kelley and a black obsidian mirror (now in the British Museum), he transcribed the Enochian language from entities he believed were angels — a system so internally coherent that linguists still poke at it nervously. His marginal question stands for the whole archive: if they weren't angels, who taught them to answer?
