FULL DOSSIER

Here's a question that will keep you up at night. What if the Moon, that pale companion you've looked at your whole life, isn't a moon at all? What if it's a machine? A hollowed-out shell of metal and rock, towed into orbit and parked above your head by someone, or something, you were never meant to meet? That is the Spaceship Moon hypothesis, and it has a real date and real names. In July 1970, two Soviet scientists, Michael Vasin and Alexander Shcherbakov, published an article in the Soviet magazine Sputnik titled, and I am not exaggerating, 'Is the Moon the Creation of Alien Intelligence?' Their argument was audacious. The Moon, they said, is a hollowed-out planetoid, its interior scooped out by an advanced civilization, its shell reinforced and its surface paved over with a layer of slag as a hull. So here's where it gets strange. They didn't pull this from nowhere. They stacked up genuine lunar oddities. Why are some Moon craters so shallow and flat-bottomed, as if they hit an armor plate a few miles down? Why does Moon rock contain refractory metals like titanium, chromium, and zirconium? And then there was the eerie one: when Apollo crews deliberately crashed spent rocket stages and ascent modules into the surface, seismometers recorded the Moon 'ringing like a bell' for over an hour. Now slow down, because this is where documentation matters. Each of those points has a natural answer. Here is what is DOCUMENTED against the hollow claim. The Moon's average density is about 3.34 grams per cubic centimeter, far too high for a hollow shell but perfectly consistent with a solid, rock-heavy body that simply lacks a large iron core. A hollow Moon of that size would be crushed by its own gravity or would fly apart; you cannot build a stable, planet-sized eggshell. The long 'ringing' after impacts is real and well understood: the dry, fractured, poreless lunar crust has almost no water to dampen vibrations, so seismic waves scatter and echo for a long time. That's not a bell, that's just very dry, broken rock. Seismic data from the Apollo ALSEP stations map a layered crust, mantle, and small partially molten core, not an empty cavity. So the Spaceship Moon is LEGEND and SPECULATION. The physics, the density, and the seismology all point to an ordinary, natural, solid Moon. And yet the idea refuses to die, because it links to its cousins. It shares DNA with the moon-structures claims, the notion that the surface hides artificial things, and it rhymes with the story of phobos, the Martian moon whose strange low density and grooved surface fed decades of 'is it hollow, is it artificial' speculation of its own. So on our map, place Spaceship Moon here, in 1970: a Cold War thought experiment orbiting between the towers of the Moon and the hollow whispers of Phobos, held down not by evidence, but by how badly we want the sky to be built rather than born.
