Reach into your pocket, pull out a dollar bill, and flip it over. Right there on the left is a floating eye, sitting atop an unfinished pyramid, glowing inside a burst of light. For millions of people, that single image is proof — proof that a secret society has been hiding in plain sight on the most common piece of paper in America. But here's the part most people don't know: the story of how that eye got there is stranger, and far more ordinary, than the legend. So let's document what actually happened. On July 4, 1776 — the very same day the Declaration was signed — the Continental Congress asked Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, and John Adams to design a national seal. Their idea flopped. So did a second committee's. It took three committees and six years before Congress finally adopted the Great Seal on June 20, 1782. The man who pulled the final design together was Charles Thomson, Secretary of Congress — not a mystic, but a Latin teacher and bookkeeper. The eye-and-pyramid lives on the reverse side of the seal. The pyramid stands for strength and duration, unfinished because the country was unfinished. Above it sits the 'Eye of Providence,' a common Christian and artistic symbol of God watching over human affairs — you'll find it in Renaissance paintings and church art long before it hit any dollar bill. Thomson's own notes explain it that way. There is no mention of Freemasons. There is no mention of the Illuminati. So here's where it gets strange. For 150 years, almost nobody saw the reverse side — it was never even engraved for regular use. Then in 1935, President Franklin Roosevelt and his Secretary of Agriculture, Henry Wallace, put both sides of the seal on the one-dollar bill. And that's when the modern legend caught fire. People saw the eye. They saw the pyramid. They noticed the Latin phrase novus ordo seclorum below it and mistranslated it as 'New World Order.' And a conspiracy was born. Now, the confusion isn't totally random. The all-seeing eye IS used as a Masonic symbol too — but the Masons adopted it in 1797, fifteen years AFTER the seal was designed. The direction of borrowing runs the wrong way for the legend. The State Department, which is the official custodian of the seal, has stated plainly that the design has no Masonic or Illuminati origin. But the truth rarely catches up to a good story. And this story travels with company: its Latin motto novus-ordo, the Bavarian secret order illuminati that supposedly hijacked it, and the modern nwo mythology that ties them all together into one grand narrative.
