The bullion depository holds, officially, 147.3 million ounces. The audit history is the file: the last full physical audit with public methodology was 1953; the 1974 'audit' was a press tour arranged to kill rumors; the 2017 visit (Mnuchin: 'glad gold is safe') was a photo opportunity. Annual Treasury audits verify seals, not bars. The Germans' seven-year timetable to repatriate 300 tonnes from New York (2013-2020) fed the rehypothecation literature. No evidence contradicts the official count — and the official count is structured to be very hard to check. That asymmetry is the entry.
