Dogon & Sirius
SUMMARY
A Malian tribe that knew Sirius had an invisible companion — centuries before telescopes.
FULL DOSSIER
French anthropologists Griaule and Dieterlen reported (1946-50) that Dogon elders knew Sirius has an invisible heavy companion on a 50-year orbit — Sirius B, confirmed telescopically only in 1862 and photographed 1970. Robert Temple built 'The Sirius Mystery' on it; skeptics (van Beek's 1991 restudy) found no such widespread knowledge and suggest Griaule contaminated his own data. The dispute is unresolved, which is why the node stays live, linked to the Sirius-lore thread.
