The Grand Chessboard
SUMMARY
Brzezinski wrote the playbook for the world island. Then, watchers say, it was played.
FULL DOSSIER
Zbigniew Brzezinski's 'The Grand Chessboard' (1997) analyzed Eurasia as the board on which American primacy would be kept — control the heartland's periphery, prevent a rival coalition. Documented: the book, and its author's tenure as National Security Adviser and Trilateral Commission co-founder. In conspiracy culture it serves as a confession — elites publishing the plan in hardcover. The counter-reading: strategists write strategy; publication is the opposite of secrecy. Both readings agree the board exists; they differ on whether anyone is actually good at the game.
