ARPANET

FILE DATE 1969
CROSS-REFS 02
STATUS NEVER CLOSED
SUMMARY
The internet's military birth certificate. It never stopped being what it was born as.
FULL DOSSIER
ARPANET (first link 1969) was DARPA-funded packet switching for resilient military communication; TCP/IP, email, and the modern internet grew from it. The node's role in the web is genealogical: the network everyone lives on descends from a defense project, which frames every subsequent surveillance revelation less as intrusion than as reversion.
